New Biodegradable WaterWipes are the original baby water wipe, with one major improvement. Suitable for sensitive, newborn and premature baby’s skin, they are now biodegradable. Nothing else has changed. They still contain only two ingredients, 99.9% water and a drop of fruit extract.
Are WaterWipes biodegradable baby wipes compostable?
As Waterwipes are now made using plant fibres, they can be disposed of in your compost bin that is collected and sent for industrial composting. You can put them in the compost bin loose, or wrapped in a biodegradable bin liner - but for hygiene reasons it’s still best to dispose of wipes used for nappy changes in the normal bin. They are currently not suitable for home composting as home composting takes longer because it usually takes place in a domestic garden using lower temperatures.
WaterWipes are suitable from birth. Newborn babies skin is 5 times thinner than an adults! That’s why their skin is so sensitive and other wipes are not suitable.
We know that parents need to change their baby’s nappy up to 10 times a day. Imagine wiping chemical ingredients on your baby’s skin 70 times per week and then locking them in with a nappy. There is no product that you would use that many times, even as an adult.
WaterWipes are great for nappy rash and other sensitive skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis because WaterWipes doesn’t irritate the skin. In fact WaterWipes are the only baby wipe ever to be approved by Allergy UK.
As pure as cotton wool and cooled boiled water – recommended by your midwife – but far more convenient and effective. So much so that maternity wards and Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the UK and Ireland have started using WaterWipes and recommending them to parents.
What is in WaterWipes?
Purified Water @ 99.9%
Citrus Grandis seed extract – aka grapefruit seed extract ...and that's it!
What's NOT in WaterWipes unlike other wipes
Many other non eco baby wipes contain harsh chemical ingredients - even the "sensitive" or "pure" ones. Check the back of the pack next time to see for yourself.
Parabens
Chemically manufactured preservatives. Parabens have been found in breast cancer tumours. Our wipes are made in a highly controlled sterile environment and WaterWipes use grapefruit seed extract as a natural biocide to keep the pack fresh (in case your fingers bring some bacteria to the during the change of baby).
Lanolin
This is grease from animal fur, aka ‘wool fat’. It is used in shoe polish and rust-proof coatings. Needless to say, our WaterWipes don’t have lanolin.
Alcohol
Babies’ skin is ultra thin, why would you want to put alcohol on their skin? Alcohol causes harsh skin sensitisation.
Perfume / Fragrance
It usually implies a mix of ingredients, possibly including phthatates. Babies need cleaning, not perfuming, We don’t use perfume in our wipe as it can inflame baby skin.
Phtalates
They are chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and harder to break. Bisphenol A is the name to watch out for as well as DBP, DEP, DEHP, BzBP, DMP… No thanks!
Benzoates
A widely used range of chemically made preservatives (look for E211 & E212. The UK Food Commission qualified it as " irritant to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes" - They are also linked to cancers and asthma. Not in WaterWipes.
Triclosan
A cancer causing antimicrobial agent (when combined with chlorine). It causes hormone disruption… No, that’s not one for baby’ skin! Or ours for that effect!
