Bialetti Moka Express 9 Cup Coffee Maker - Zero Waste

Our summary: we've always loved the look of this coffee maker, and when we heard their family business was struggling to compete with the likes of Nespresso, we wanted to support them even more by stocking them! We've been using ours for years now and love the depth of flavour it brings. The 9 cups is really like 9 espresso cups so you can make 3-4 large strong coffees instead or water it down a bit as we do!

The Moka Express from Bialetti is a 100% eco-sustainable method of preparing coffee. it is totally Zero Waste: the only waste produced is 100% biodegradable and compostable. There are zero detergents: chemical detergents aren’t necessary to clean it. And its timeless: a green investment as it will last for at least 10 years with very little maintenance.

Bialetti has to date manufactured over 200 million coffee makers. In particular, the Moka Express has become iconic and has allowed millions of consumers to enjoy great Italian coffee. The Moka produces a rich, authentic espresso in just minutes. The aluminum pot features Bialetti’s distinctive eight-sided shape that allows it to diffuse heat perfectly to enhance the aroma of your coffee.

Bialetti shows its commitment to the environment by linking the iconic Moka Express to Oceana, the worldwide organisation dedicated to safeguarding oceanic ecosystems that points the spotlight on pollution by disposable plastic.

Benefits for you and the environment:

  • Makes the perfect espresso the Italian way on your stovetop at home
  • Simple and easy to use with the black handle is curved for ease of use
  • Made from durable aluminium, long lasting and durable.
  • No waste, the coffee grinds can be composted and the pot can be easily cleaned and reused for years.
  • Small family run business.

In 1933, Alfonso Bialetti came up with the genius idea of the Moka pot, which revolutionized the way coffee is made at home and enabled the company, thanks to the ambition of Alfonso’s son Renato, to immediately establish itself as one of the leading Italian coffee maker manufacturers. Unique and original, Alfonso Bialetti's invention is unmistakable to this day, with its art deco design, octagonal vessle and easy to clean valve.

With the Bialetti moka, the pleasure of drinking a coffee becomes a daily ritual, so you can savour all the taste and aroma of coffee made in a moka every day. If you can't do without the creamy taste of an espresso coffee like the one served in cafés, try this hob-top coffee maker, so you can savour an intense, full-bodied coffee with a creamy head at any time of day.

To use:

Fill the lower chamber with cold water just below the valve.
Insert the funnel and fill it with ground espresso (do not tamp). Remove any coffee grounds on the edge of the funnel
Tightly screw the upper part of the pot on to the base. Avoid using the handle for leverage.
Select burner size to fit bottom of pot. For gas stovetop, make sure the flame is not larger than bottom of pot. The flame should not come around the sides of the pot.
Place pot on the stovetop until the water boils and coffee begins to come out of the center post. There will be a gurgling sound during this process.
When the top of the pot is full of coffee, remove from stove. Hazel brown foam appears just seconds before the coffee is completely done.
Before pouring coffee, stir it in the upper chamber with a small spoon to equalize all the different coffee layers for optimum flavor.

Cleaning:

Wash by hand with warm water.
Dry thoroughly with towel.
Do not reassemble the product until all parts are completely dry to avoid oxidation.
Do not use soap or detergent.
Do not use in dishwasher.
Do not use steel wool or other abrasive products.

Tips/precautions:

Use coffee ground specifically for a moka coffee maker. Don't use too fine ground coffee.
Periodically check the funnel, the filter plate and the washer for wear. Over time, they may need to be replaced.
Never use the pot without water.
Never use other contents besides coffee like teas, cacao powder or instant coffee as it will clog the filter plate.
If the heat is too high, coffee may have a burnt taste. Getting the optimum temperature for brewing may take some trial and error.
Store coffee grounds in airtight container, away from sunlight.
Use filtered water for best coffee flavor.
