Palm Free Irish Soap Co Shampoo Bar - Thyme & Lavender - Zero Waste 35g

Our summary: we love this company's ethos - they help protect the rainforests by not using any palm oil, they instead use gentle, natural ingredients that work, and they are passionate about minimal packaging so they make all their gorgeous products zero waste without any plastic packaging. We love this new natural deodorant bar for your zero waste bathroom or travel bag. We've tested it and it works really well, just rub it on well directly to the armpit and enjoy day long freshness.

Feel fresh all day with the all natural deodorant bar; a natural, anti-irritant formula infused with organic lavender, patchouli and petitgrain to deliver a light, refreshing fragrance.

Fortified with organic arrowroot and bentonite clay, the deodorant works to absorb perspiration and protect skin against environmental toxins, whilst organic shea and cocoa butter gently moisturises and hydrates the underarm area to prevent dryness. Organic essential oils of lemongrass and cypress deliver antiseptic and antibacterial benefits to leave you clean and comfortable throughout the day.

Benefits for you and the environment:

  • Durable, long lasting and ideal for travelling or for your zero waste bathroom.
  • Bentonite clay has been found to absorb harmful toxins from the body and surrounding environment whilst at the same time healing irritated skin and creating a protective barrier.
  • Organic arrowroot powder effectively absorbs sweat while shea and coconut butter soothes and moisturizes skin.
  • The antibacterial abilities of zinc oxide, lemongrass, cypress and lavender can restrict the bacteria that cause body odour without clogging pores, leaving a cool and refreshing scent.
  • Free from Parabens, Silica, Triclosan, Talc, Propylene Glycol, Steareths, and TEA/DEA.

Application:

For best results, warm the edge of the deodorant bar against your body before gently rubbing it onto the underarm area.

Important Note:

This product contains a minute amount of Sodium Bicarbonate so as not to cause irritation - however you should always patch test before use.

As with natural shampoo bars, it may take a little while to notice the full effect of switching to natural deodorants. This is the armpits’ microbiome adjusting to life without the heavy influence of chemical and toxins which may take up to a couple of weeks.

Based on the beautiful shores of scenic Lough Derg in East Clare, Palm Free Irish Soap was born out of the first Handmade Soap Company in Ireland, Gallunac (est’d 1996). They are now at the forefront of producing luxurious handmade Irish soap without the use of Palm Oil or any Palm Oil Derivatives, they pride themselves as being totally Rainforest Friendly. Being a Natural Product, these Soaps DO NOT CONTAIN any Artificial Fragrances, Preservatives, SLF’s Parabens, G.M.O’s or preservatives, they are preserved only by their Pure Essential Oils and Vitamins A, C & E.

Palm Free Irish Soap use minimal packaging, all soaps are sold in a simple recyclable brown paper bag, and all ingredients and products are completely GMO Free and free from any form of animal testing.

Why no palm oil?

There is nothing actually wrong with Palm Oil itself, in fact Palm Oil is an excellent source of vegetable oil. It is the method by which it is farmed and grown, also where it is planted, that causes the problems. For instance, vast swathes of precious rainforests in Indonesia and Malaysia are being lost on a daily basis, as much as the size of 300 football pitches an HOUR are being cleared to make way for the Palm Oil plantations. It’s not just the wildlife that are suffering, it is also the indigenous people and their heritage that is being lost, their home is made up of over 20,000 flowering plant species, 300,000 animal species and don’t forget about the trees.

Given the current rate of clearing, within 12 years the Rainforest as we know them, could be all but a distant memory.

The demand for Palm Oil is also responsible for river pollution, land erosion and air pollution. In fact, it has been found that Palm Oil production is the second largest contributor to Greenhouse gases.

Although Palm Free Irish Soap won’t be able to change the world’s opinion and habits, they are doing their bit by finding a suitable alternative, Palm Oil is not a necessity, it is widely used because it is very cheap to produce. Even the use of Palm Oil from so called Sustainable sources is questionable. That’s why we don’t use ANY Palm Oil or Hidden Derivatives in our soaps and are proud to call ourselves “Rainforest Friendly”, you can read more at these links:
