The Environmental Toothbrush with Biodegradable and Sustainable Bamboo

The hundreds of choices we make each day impact the environment. Sometimes its a big decision. Sometimes it's as small as changing your toothbrush.

Invented by a Brisbane dentist, The Environmental Toothbrush is a simple solution to the waste caused by plastic toothbrushes that will be helping the earth and your wallet.

The Handle:

Made from bamboo, a natural cellulose fibre, the handles are biodegradable, environmentally sustainable, and do not pollute the environment. The amazing growth and self-renewing ability of bamboo means that deforestation is not necessary either. Even the packaging is bio-degradable.

Bamboo is technically considered a member of the grass family. It is the fastest growing plant on earth, and incredibly abundant. Our bamboo is cultivated for three years, and then harvested. It re-generates itself naturally, with minimal rain and without the need for harmful pesticides. In fact, by harvesting and using the bamboo, we help to control unwanted spread into agricultural and natural forest areas.

The bamboo is heat treated to carbonise the surface of the bamboo, giving it a quality finish and good service life. The carbonisation finishing process provides water resistance and prevents the growth of microbes (bacteria and moulds) during normal use.

The Bristles:

The bristles are made from a BPA FREE polymer resistant to microbial growth during normal use, to ensure safety and durability. We have tried to find a biodegradable bristle but as of this time there is nothing available – apart from boars hair (don’t want to go there). No they are not Nylon 4 (as far as we know there are no bristles made from Nylon 4 on the market today).

We have tried to bring you a toothbrush that is better for the environment- over the years we have been misled by our manufactures about our bristles being made of Nylon 4. We still believe that our toothbrush is a better alternative to a full Plastic toothbrush.

We recommend you rinse and dry your toothbrush after use to keep it clean.

For best results, most dentist’s recommend you replace your toothbrush either monthly or at least every quarter. Some even say use it until it stops. To answer the main question, HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? – We test drove a toothbrush for over 8 months so yes they last (not that we suggest you do that!).

Disposal:

The Environmental Toothbrush handle can be disposed of safely by returning it to earth in compost or landfill. The bamboo handle will biodegrade into soil without pollution, we suggest that you remove the bristles and place them into the bin or recycling.

The Environmental toothbrush is  BPA Free and vegan friendly as well as the bonus of being fair trade.

(dentists recommend that you change your toothbrush every 3 months)

Takes some getting used to
Thursday, 22 March 2018  |

I've been trying my best this year to avoid plastic in any way shape or form and this toothbrush seemed like the best alternative. I'm not going to lie, the first time I used it I really didn't like it, the bristles are fine it was more the handle I was having problems with. We're so used of smooth plastic that the wood against the inside of my cheeks felt a bit rough. I kept is it though and now after 2 weeks I can say it's no problem at all, I do wet the back of the head before using to make it a little more smooth. The head is a little too big but I'm not sure if it available in a smaller size. I would give it 4 starts if it was. My teeth feel as clean as with a regular brush
