This is a really old-fashioned German teething remedy. It goes a little soft and slippery and brings relief by sucking and is gentle to bite particularly when they have no teeth at all yet.
It is like an emollient that eases the effects of the chemical in the saliva that breaks down the gums and the nasty taste in the mouth that gives babies such raw bottoms when it goes through their systems. (Iris would also be a constituent in the herbal remedy for acne).
We did find less teething nappy rash when we used it. You just leave it out to dry after use. And pour boiling water over it and reuse it again for the next attack.
We found it more useful than the amber in the early months of teething - and both our babies have teethed from 2 months - when it was hard to get them interested in a teething ring.
